The Dominican Institute of Technology (INTEC) announced the risks of e-cigarettes and hookahs at a seminar in Santo Domingo.

According to a report from Diariodigital on November 1st, the Medical Student Committee (CEMED) of the Dominican Institute of Technology (INTEC) presented a study on the pros and cons of e-cigarettes and hookahs at a seminar titled "Beyond the Lungs," held in Santo Domingo.

 

Expert Mariel Pacheco warns that while many young people believe that this product poses less risk to their health compared to regular tobacco, frequent use may increase the risk of developing respiratory, digestive, kidney, and bladder cancers, as well as potentially increasing the incidence of oral cancer.

 

Dr. Pacheco, a participating medical expert, stated that research has shown the harmful effects of e-cigarettes on oral health, vocal cords, and other related damages, as well as the direct correlation between respiratory damage and the use of e-cigarettes. Furthermore, he emphasized the possibility of a potential link between lung cancer and the use of both e-cigarettes and water pipes.

 

Other experts also discussed the impact of e-cigarettes on mental health and sexual function, emphasizing the necessity of quitting e-cigarettes.
