The CEO of the Cancer Council Western Australia, Ashley Reid, told Liam Bartlett that despite being eight years ago, it is still possible. "We believe that in 2000, approximately 25% of adults smoked daily," he explained. "Tobacco is still the leading cause of preventable disease and death in Australia.
The goal is to reduce this figure by half by 2030, bringing the smoking rate from around 10% to 5%.
