Turkish Customs Seizes Smuggled E-cigarettes Worth $1.48 Million

According to Turkish media outlet Patronlar Dünyası, Turkish customs authorities have confiscated smuggled e-cigarettes and accessories valued at 13.2 million Turkish lira (approximately 1.48 million US dollars). This operation took place at the Kapıkule Customs Gate on the Turkish-Bulgarian border and involved a high-risk truck.

An official from the Turkish Ministry of Trade has stated that their customs inspection officers had suspicions about a truck attempting to enter Turkey. After conducting an X-ray examination, the truck was taken to a location for a thorough search.

During the search, authorities discovered 18,600 e-cigarettes, 860 e-cigarette pods, and 5,200 vaporizers that had not been declared. It is worth noting that these products, which were prohibited in Turkey, were showcased at the exhibition. Preliminary estimates suggest that the market value of these smuggled goods amounts to 13.2 million liras.

The investigation is currently being conducted by the Edirne Prosecutor's Office in Turkey. The Turkish government and customs department have expressed satisfaction with the successful operation, emphasizing their determination to continue efforts to prevent such illicit smuggling activities that pose a threat to public health.
