According to the local news website NUZ.UZ on May 25th, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan approved Resolution No. 290 on May 18th, which sets out the technical regulations for tobacco products, including requirements for e-cigarettes and heated tobacco.
Therefore, the volume of nicotine liquid in disposable e-cigarettes should not exceed 5 milliliters, e-cigarette pods should not exceed 2 milliliters, and bottled e-liquid should not exceed 10 milliliters. Technical regulations have approved a range of substances that cannot be used in e-cigarette liquids, including diacetyl, vitamin C and E, vitamin E acetate, caffeine, taurine, guarana, and more.
Compared to the existing restrictions on the nicotine content in e-cigarette liquid (20 milligrams per 1 milliliter), Uzbekistan's e-cigarette category is being regulated "from all aspects" to ensure consumer safety.
In addition, regulations require "graphic warnings" to be added to the packaging of e-cigarettes, warning consumers of nicotine addiction and other potential consequences of using these products. Similar requirements, such as banning certain ingredients and including "graphic warnings," are also proposed for heated tobacco products. All e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products in the country will undergo mandatory certification to confirm safety and quality before entering the market.
This document will come into effect on January 1, 2025, which means that all e-cigarette and heated tobacco products on the Uzbekistan market will be subject to comprehensive regulation, ending the previous state of being unregulated.
