California's Carmel City Extends Temporary Ban on Tobacco and E-Cigarette Shops
California's Carmel City council extends temporary ban on tobacco and e-cigarette shops following numerous complaints.

According to a report from Midhudsonnews on April 8th, council members in the city of Carmel, California have been receiving numerous complaints about tobacco or e-cigarette shops. In March of last year (2023), the city council voted to temporarily ban the building department from issuing construction permits and business licenses for such shops after a public hearing.

The mayor of the city, Michael Cazzari, has stated that the city council is currently conducting a comprehensive review of the relevant chapters of the Carmel City Code.

In order to give the city council time to complete its review and draft new regulations, the council believes that extending the ban is in the city's best interest.

The city council subsequently decided to extend the ban.

The ban prohibits these types of stores from obtaining construction permits or business licenses. Currently, Carmel City has three tobacco or e-cigarette stores, while there are a total of seven in the Del Mar Heights area.

Director of the Putnam Prevention Committee, Kristin McConnell, expressed appreciation for the ban in the city, emphasizing its important role in preventing youth e-cigarette use.
