Colombian regulator fines BAT and Glu for lack of information on e-cigarette products, violating tobacco restrictions law.

According to El Colombiano on October 13th, the Colombian Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC) fined two companies, British American Tobacco Colombia (BAT) and Inversiones GluCloud SAS (Glu), for failing to provide consumers with sufficient information about their e-cigarette products.

SIC pointed out that these companies failed to clearly provide information on the harmful nature of e-cigarettes, and did not properly disclose the levels of nicotine in their products or the risks of heart, lung, and stomach diseases they may cause. Therefore, the agency decided to fine BAT 1.218 million Colombian pesos (approximately $286) and Glu 5.89 billion Colombian pesos (about $14,000).

In mid-May of this year, Colombian President Gustavo Petro signed Law 2354 proposed by Senators Norma Hurtado and José Name. The law imposes restrictions on the consumption, sale, advertising, and promotion of e-cigarettes and tobacco products, requiring clear labeling of health risks on product labels and sales points to ensure consumers can make informed decisions. Additionally, it bans the sale of e-cigarettes and similar devices to minors.

GluCloud SAS (Glu) is an e-cigarette company based in Colombia, with its headquarters located in the Bogota Special District.

Kentucky to Require Tobacco and Vape Retailers to Be Licensed Starting January 2026
