Emergency Room Visits Double in Virginia Due to E-Cigarettes
Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association data analysis shows ER visits due to e-cigarette use in Virginia doubled from 2020 to 2023.

According to a report from Prince William Time on August 4, a data analysis released by the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association this week revealed that the number of emergency room visits in Virginia due to e-cigarette use more than doubled from 2020 to 2023. According to the organization's data, there were 23,630 patients who visited the emergency room in 2020 due to e-cigarette use. By 2023, this number had increased to 49,356 people, a 108.9% growth.

In contrast, the number of people visiting the emergency room due to using traditional tobacco products (such as cigarettes and chewing tobacco) decreased by about 25% during the same period. However, the number of visits related to traditional tobacco products still accounted for the majority.


This set of data does not necessarily reflect the health risks or safety of various tobacco products. According to Julian Walker, spokesperson for the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association, this data includes patients who visited the emergency room due to issues such as ongoing coughing related to tobacco or other illnesses like the flu.


The Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association stated in a press release:


In summary, this trend data may indicate that some users of tobacco products are transitioning from traditional tobacco products to e-cigarettes and e-cigarette devices.

China’s vape exports to the U.S. reached approximately $1.58 billion in the first half of 2026, remaining broadly stable from a year earlier but still below previous growth momentum. 2Firsts’ analysis of China Customs data shows that the U.S. market has not simply returned to its previous trajectory after the enforcement shock and inventory-driven swings of 2025. Instead, export momentum is shifting across product categories. Vaping devices and atomization hardware increased 15.2% year over year, while 6-methyl nicotine-related and other nicotine substitute products surged 234.7%. Meanwhile, traditional nicotine-containing vaping products continued to face pressure.

The authors frame impact as “reach × efficacy” and call for real-world evidence to complement RCTs. Three days after publication, the FDA authorized three JUUL2 products and highlighted complete switching among adult smokers in explaining its decision, providing a timely regulatory backdrop to the debate.

China’s HTP Exports Fell 14.3% in H1 2026 as Russia and Belarus Accounted for 76% Lead
In H1 2026, China’s HS 24041100 exports stood at $1.32 million, down 14.3% YoY, with volume falling 17.2% to 55.33 tons. Market distribution shifted drastically amid overall export drops. Exports to Russia and Belarus totaled $1 million, taking 76.0% of all shipments versus 29.5% in H1 2025. Belarus became the top destination with export value jumping 177.5%, while the Philippines, Singapore and Indonesia’s combined share slumped from 49.3% to 11.2%.Domestically, Yunnan led exporter registrations; Jiangsu and Shanghai were key suppliers, yet Anhui and Sichuan had no exports. Heavy concentration means order or declaration changes for Russia/Belarus greatly affect national aggregate data. The data shows customs entry points (not end markets), covering tobacco consumables only, excluding heating equipment and the complete HTP supply chain.

The product retains the existing IQOS ILUMA i PRIME platform, with differentiation centered on airport exclusivity, design and travel-retail execution rather than a new heating architecture.
