Finnish Police Find Synthetic Marijuana in Underage E-cigarettes
Finnish police discovered underage individuals with e-cigarettes containing synthetic cannabis, raising concerns about illegal imports and health risks.

According to a report by Pledge Times on August 5th, Finnish police have discovered some minors in possession of e-cigarettes or vaporizers containing synthetic cannabinoids. This is the first case in Finland where such drugs have been found in confiscated e-cigarettes.

Tuomas Puukko, the chief of the Finnish Häme Police Department, expressed his belief that there may be more similar e-cigarettes on the market. In a recent case, authorities investigated suspicious packaging labels. In the future, the police will pay more attention to inspecting e-cigarette packaging, but the complexity of supervision lies in the fact that underage individuals rarely carry these e-cigarette packages.

Local police consider e-cigarettes containing synthetic cannabinoids to be illegally imported. A press release from the Hamay Police Department stated that the use of e-cigarettes among young people has been increasing, causing concern for law enforcement. According to a study, it is estimated that e-cigarette use is more common among young people than smoking traditional cigarettes. Police observation indicates that the youngest e-cigarette users are around 12 to 13 years old.

Public Health Agency pointed out that even regular e-cigarette use carries many health risks. The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) stated that using e-cigarettes can harm lung function, expose people to various harmful substances, and increase the risk of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. THL also explained that synthetic cannabinoids are a type of designer drug, with effects and structures similar to traditional drugs, but with even higher risks. Synthetic cannabinoids are stronger than natural marijuana, making dose control difficult.
