German Customs Foils Cigarette Smuggling Operation - Thüringer Allgemeine
German customs officers in Erfurt discovered 10,000 smuggled cigarettes and 800 Heets, resulting in potential tax losses of €1,800.

According to German media outlet Thueringer-allgemeine, on January 19th, a smuggling case was uncovered by customs officials in Erfurt, Germany on the A4 highway. The officials were inspecting a car that had originated from Ukraine.

 

During the inspection, it was discovered that the vehicle was concealing 10,000 smuggled cigarettes, which lacked the appropriate tax labels, with some brands originating from Belarus. Additionally, 800 Heets, specifically designed for e-cigarettes, were also found during the inspection. The Customs Administration, responsible for carrying out the inspection, announced this discovery on Friday.

 

According to customs estimates, the failed tax evasion attempt has resulted in a national tax loss of approximately 1800 euros (approximately 2016 US dollars). Currently, the police have initiated criminal proceedings against the driver.
