Illegal E-liquid Seized from Japanese E-cigarette Retailers

On July 25th, according to a report from Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun, the Kanto-Shinetsu Regional Bureau of Health and Welfare and the Anesthesia Prohibition Division (referred to as "Matori") of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare announced that the stores of Japanese e-cigarette retailer Good Chill Group were suspected of illegally selling e-liquid containing cannabis components called "Kusamajin". Matori has conducted raids in a total of 20 stores across nine prefectures, confiscating a total of 141 products believed to be illegal.

Law enforcement officials conducted searches of 28 stores belonging to the group across 15 prefectures from May 20th to 21st. They seized a product called "草魔人" e-cigarette liquid from 20 stores located in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama, Ibaraki, Aomori, Osaka, Hiroshima, and Kochi.

The product is priced at approximately 16,000 yen (about 0.3 grams per bottle) and the test results have revealed that it contains illegal cannabis components.

These shops consist of both company-owned stores and franchise locations.

Maqu is currently conducting an investigation into the sales of "草魔人" in collaboration with the management company, "Good Shit", an affiliated company located in Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture.

According to officials from the Ministry of Labor, orders have been issued to halt the sales of the company's products following an incident this year where a person was hospitalized due to the use of their product.
