Indonesian Officials Destroy 40 Million Illegal Tobacco Products
Indonesian customs in Terbanggi Besar region destroyed 40 million illegal tobacco products to promote transparency and accountability.

According to ANTARA's report on July 9th, the Banda Nanggung Customs in the Terbanggi Besar region of Nanggung County, Indonesia, destroyed 40 million illegal tobacco products. In order to ensure accountability and transparency in law enforcement, the destruction operation was carried out through a public incineration method.

 

According to Herianto, Chief of Information and Customs Duties Consultation and Information Service at the Bandanampang Customs, tobacco products with an estimated total value of 48.5 billion rupees (approximately 58,093,300 US dollars) were destroyed, while potential national losses of around 39 billion rupees (approximately 46,713,498.00 US dollars) were successfully prevented. "These tobacco products came from joint enforcement operations conducted by customs, tax office, Indonesian Armed Forces, police, and other related agencies between 2023 and 2024," said Herianto.

 

This destruction event demonstrated the commitment of the customs and excise sectors to transparency in item management by inviting representatives from the Indonesian National Army, National Police, Prosecutor's Office, local government, and other relevant stakeholders.
