Malawi's Tobacco Sales Revenues Soar by 83.3%
Malawi's tobacco sales revenue has surged by 83.3% compared to the same period last year, reaching $81.2 million.

According to Xinhua News Agency, as of May 17th, within a period of four weeks ending on May 10th, Malawi's tobacco sales revenue reached 81.2 million US dollars, an increase of 83.3% compared to the same period last year.

 

The Tobacco Commission estimates that tobacco growers will sell 140 million kilograms of tobacco to the market this year, an increase of 17% from the production of approximately 125 million kilograms last year. Regulatory authorities have reported that since the market opened in April, 30 million kilograms have already been sold, a 47.5% increase from the same period last year.

 

The committee stated, "Seasonal average prices have also increased by 28% to $2.70 per kilogram, compared to $2.11 per kilogram last year.

 

According to the Malawi National Statistical Office, Malawi's total export value in 2023 was $1.1 billion, with tobacco exports accounting for $389 million.
