According to Berita Harian's report on April 8th, the Malaysian Ministry of Health recently issued non-compliance notices or warning letters to businesses that have failed to comply with the ban on displaying tobacco products.

Malaysia's Minister of Health, Dzulkefly Ahmad, stated to the media today (8th) after attending the handover ceremony of automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) by the Ministry of Health that the phased enforcement of the ban will continue until October 1, 2025.

The Public Health (Control of Tobacco Products) Act 2024 (Bill 852) has officially been implemented starting October 1, 2024. This includes all stores, including the 51,000 shops that sell tobacco products, are required to comply with the relevant bans.

The bill covers regulations on product registration, sales, packaging, labeling, and smoking bans in public places. Since the implementation of the bill, the Ministry of Health has ensured compliance with all regulations through ongoing education and promotion. In order to ensure enforcement of the regulations, the Ministry of Health has adopted a phased enforcement strategy to advance in a more cautious and effective manner.
