Malaysia Ministries Collaborate to Tackle Student Vape Addiction
The Health and Education Ministries join forces to combat the growing issue of vape addiction among students through awareness campaigns and education.

Malaysia Health Minister Dr. Zaliha Mustafa announced plans for the Health Ministry to collaborate with the Education Ministry in addressing vape addiction among students. This partnership will involve conducting awareness campaigns and educating children about the dangers of vaping.

Dr. Zaliha expressed concern over reports indicating a significant number of children becoming addicted to smoking vapes belonging to their family members. This statement came in response to findings from the Consumers' Association of Penang (CAP), which showed that children were being introduced to vaping by their fathers and elder brothers.

CAP education officer and activist, N.V. Subbarow, shared that children aged 9 to 12 admitted to trying vapes and e-cigarettes owned by their fathers or brothers during CAP's smoking, vaping, and e-cigarette awareness program held in Penang schools. "Out of the 300 children found by CAP during the nicotine-free program for children, 200 of them admitted to vaping twice a week," he said.

Dr. Zaliha emphasized the crucial role family members play in addressing vape addiction among children and urged parents to monitor their children's behavior. She also called on older or teenage family members to take responsibility and refrain from introducing or encouraging children to try vaping.
