According to a report by the New Straits Times, the Malaysian Ministry of Health (MOH) is preparing to submit the Public Health (Control of Smoking Products) Bill during the second session of the 15th Parliament in order to protect the health of the younger generation.
The bill includes the "Generation Extinguishment Bill" (GEB), which aims to prohibit anyone born in 2007 or later from using tobacco and electronic cigarette products.
Additionally, the bill also includes restrictions on the registration, advertising, promotion, sponsorship, packaging, and sale of tobacco products.
Dr. Hermi, special advisor to the Minister of Health, stated that the GEG policy only applies to the prohibition of purchasing and using cigarettes or e-cigarettes. This is due to the recommendation of a parliamentary committee to lift the ban on possessing and owning tobacco or e-cigarette products, which has been removed from the bill.
Hermi expressed hope that the bill will receive support from all congressional members to make Malaysia a smoke-free country.
