Malaysian Government Plans to Regulate E-Cigarette Sales among Youth

Dr Zaliha Mustafa, Malaysia's Federal Minister of Local Government, emphasized the need for continuous monitoring of e-cigarette sales in vending machines.

According to The Star on July 18th, Malaysian Federal Territories Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa stated that continuous monitoring is necessary to regulate the sale of e-cigarettes on vending machines due to their increasing popularity among teenagers.

Sally made the above statement in response to recent reports of vending machines selling e-cigarettes at a shopping center in Kuala Lumpur.

My stance is that there is a need to monitor it, and if necessary, the Department of Health must take control and action.

According to reports, on July 12th, the Malaysian Ministry of Health has ordered a shopping mall in the capital city to cease operations of its vending machines due to the viral spread on social media. The mall management also met with the Health Ministry to discuss the necessary actions, as well as the ban on vending e-cigarettes.

When asked if her department would take any action, former Health Minister Sallyha said they would investigate whether the machine has the necessary permits.

We need to look at this issue from the perspective of the licensing legislation.

She added that the Ministry of Education can play a role in raising awareness among people.
