According to themalaysiapress on June 11, the government of Pahang, Malaysia has announced a complete ban on the use of e-cigarettes or e-cigarette devices in the state. This decision was announced by Datuk Seri Syed Ibrahim Syed Ahmad, the Executive Councillor for Islamic Affairs, Rural Development and Orang Asli Affairs in Pahang, at a press conference in Sri Pahang Action Room.
Sayed Ibrahim stated that the state government's position on e-cigarettes has been resolved by the Pahang Mufti's Office and sought the advice of the state legal counsel's office. This decision was presented at the Pahang Executive Council meeting on May 14 and received approval from Pahang Sultan Abdullah.
Sultan Abdullah delivered a speech at an event in Kuantan on November 19, 2024, emphasizing the health risks of e-cigarettes and recommending a complete ban on their use in Pahang and even globally. He firmly stated that this issue does not require much consideration and should be decisively banned.
When asked if the sale of e-cigarette devices would also be banned in all premises in Pahang, Syed Ibrahim emphasized that it would be the responsibility of the local government to implement and enforce it specifically. He suggested gradually reducing the sale of e-cigarettes and urged businesses to stop increasing their inventory, with the hope that there will be no more stores selling e-cigarettes starting next year.
