Meeting between STMA and British American Tobacco Group Members
State Tobacco Monopoly Administration's deputy chief Wang Gongcheng met with British American Tobacco representatives in Beijing on May 16.

On May 16, Wang Gongcheng, a member of the Party Group and Deputy Director of the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration, met with members of the Management Committee of the British American Tobacco Group who were visiting from the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and Africa regions. The two sides held friendly discussions during the meeting in Beijing.

 

Officials from the National Bureau of Foreign Affairs, the Development Planning Department, the E-Cigarette Management Office, China Tobacco Sales Corporation, and China Tobacco International Limited attended the meeting.

U.S. Rep.Mike Carey and 70 other Republican lawmakers have urged federal officials to elevate the crackdown on illicit vapes to the U.S.–China trade agenda. In a March 4 letter to the Treasury Secretary and the U.S. Trade Representative, they warned that unauthorized vape products pose risks related to national security, youth protection and organized crime. The signatories represent about one-third of House Republicans, highlighting growing congressional attention to illicit vape trade.

KT&G Launches “Miix Cigar Collection” for lil Hybrid at Convenience Stores Nationwide
KT&G said on April 15 that it will launch “Miix Cigar Collection,” a dedicated stick for its lil Hybrid heated tobacco product, at convenience stores nationwide in South Korea. The company said the product is the first in the Miix series to apply a “Balance Filter” with internal space in the filter and contains 18% cigar leaf to deliver cigar flavor. With the new launch, the Miix lineup for lil Hybrid will expand to 16 products.

The Indonesian Vape Retailers Association (Arvindo) has instructed all member stores to stop selling electronic cigarettes to customers under 21. Arvindo said it issued an official circular requiring vape shops to display 21+ signage and to ask customers for valid identification.

A bill introduced in Singapore’s Parliament on Feb. 12 proposes major increases in penalties for vaping-related offences, including higher maximum fines for users, sellers and smugglers. The draft would also rename the current Tobacco (Control of Advertisements and Sale) Act as the Tobacco and Vaporisers Control Act.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Health is preparing to implement regulations on electronic cigarettes, as provided for in Government Regulation No. 28 of 2024. The ministry said e-cigarettes will be regulated under provisions equivalent to those applied to conventional cigarettes, including age restrictions, advertising controls, product content standards, pictorial health warnings, and bans on use in smoke-free areas.
