Meeting between STMA and British American Tobacco Group Members

State Tobacco Monopoly Administration's deputy chief Wang Gongcheng met with British American Tobacco representatives in Beijing on May 16.

On May 16, Wang Gongcheng, a member of the Party Group and Deputy Director of the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration, met with members of the Management Committee of the British American Tobacco Group who were visiting from the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and Africa regions. The two sides held friendly discussions during the meeting in Beijing.

Officials from the National Bureau of Foreign Affairs, the Development Planning Department, the E-Cigarette Management Office, China Tobacco Sales Corporation, and China Tobacco International Limited attended the meeting.

KT&G reported its Q3 2025 financial results, posting revenue of KRW 1.83 trillion (≈USD 1.31 billion) and a 73.4% year-over-year surge in net profit—marking the company’s highest operating profit in five years. The Next Generation Product (NGP) segment performed strongly, generating KRW 279.1 billion (≈USD 199 million) in revenue, with overseas NGP sales more than doubling year-over-year.

Malaysia Collected US$50.07 million in Vape Tax Since April 2023

Malaysia collected RM209.5 million(US$50.07 million) in excise duty on nicotine-containing vape liquids and gels from April 2023 to August 2025, according to Finance Ministry data. However, Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said RM223.5 million was spent treating EVALI patients in the past year alone, exceeding the tax revenue.
