Moldova to Prohibit Smoking in Public Places: Health Minister
Moldova to ban smoking in public places, including parks and public transport, as part of new health measures.

According to a recent report by Infotag, the Republic of Moldova will ban smoking in public places.

Health Minister Alla Nemerenco stated, "Smoking in public places such as parks, terraces, and public transport stops will be prohibited," with the ban also extending to e-cigarettes.

On Thursday evening, the minister stated on JurnalTV program that "the relevant legislation has already undergone public consultation and has been included in the government agenda.

The minister emphasized, "Restrictions apply to all types of cigarettes, as heated tobacco products are just as harmful as regular cigarettes.

The claim that e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products are less harmful is incorrect. It is against the law for any doctor to promote e-cigarettes. This is prohibited, and doctors may lose their medical license as a result. In addition, flavored cigarettes also attract consumers. Flavors like lemon and mint are very appealing, and people may end up smoking more, which is even more dangerous.

According to the minister, the law will introduce a standardized no-smoking sign and ban the sale of flavored cigarettes starting in 2026.

According to our data, in Moldova, the usage of e-cigarettes among young people has been increasing, and the number of adolescents using these products is also on the rise. However, passive smoking can also lead to a high death rate. Our task is to promote proper social behavior. Smokers just need to stay a few steps away from others. We will place prohibition signs everywhere. If up until now the ban only applied to regular cigarettes, it now also applies to e-cigarette products.
