Restrictions on E-cigarette Usage in Galicia, Spain

According to local Spanish media outlet Galiciaconfidencial, the autonomous government of Galicia, Spain, is planning to impose legal restrictions on the use of e-cigarettes. If the proposal is approved, Galicia would become the first region in Spain to impose such restrictions on e-cigarettes.

Today, it is common to find a variety of e-cigarettes in commercial centers, pharmacies, and bars. It is not uncommon to see people with e-cigarettes in their hands or groups of underage individuals chatting in parks while using e-cigarettes.

According to expert Manuel Isorna, regulations and legislative systems play a crucial role in this matter because effective laws that can restrict, prohibit, or penalize and require attention to consumer behavior are necessary. Although they cannot completely eradicate the use of e-cigarettes, they can create a significant barrier to underage individuals using these substances when their age is too low.

Isorna explains that there are two types of e-cigarettes, one with nicotine and another without, and these are all flavored options. He firmly believes that all behaviors imitating smoking should be prohibited for minors, including the use of e-cigarettes without nicotine.

The notion that promoting e-cigarettes as less harmful than traditional cigarettes is contradictory, according to Isolna. When it comes to the debate of e-cigarettes versus traditional tobacco, Isolna believes that comparing the two is absurd and that ideally, neither of these substances should be used.
