According to a report from Romania-insider on June 18, the Romanian Chamber of Deputies has passed a bill banning the advertising of e-cigarettes (including heated tobacco and oral nicotine pouches). The bill was approved with 269 votes in favor, 2 votes against, and 3 abstentions.
The bill clearly states: "Prohibit the public broadcasting of tobacco products, including various e-cigarettes, heated tobacco and smokeless tobacco alternatives, as well as oral nicotine pouch products advertisements.
According to current laws, only tobacco product advertisements are explicitly banned. However, this new legislation also prohibits the advertising and promotion of these products in educational institutions and medical facilities, as well as within 200 meters of the entrances to these places.
In addition, advertisements must not appear in publications primarily targeted at minors or be shown in theaters before, during, or after performances for minors. Furthermore, advertising for these products cannot target minors; cannot depict minors consuming the products; cannot imply therapeutic effects, energizing or calming properties, or the ability to solve personal problems; cannot convey negative images of non-smokers; and must include warning labels in Romanian in the advertisements.
