RTHK.News Reports Crackdown on Shisha Smoking in Hong Kong

Hong Kong Tobacco Control Office conducted a surprise inspection on a bar in Tsim Sha Tsui, issuing 11 fines for shisha smoking.

According to a recent report by RTHK News, the Tobacco Control Office of Hong Kong, China stated on Saturday (17th) that they conducted a surprise inspection at a bar in Tsim Sha Tsui on Friday evening, focusing on cracking down on waterpipe smoking. They issued 11 standard penalty tickets at the bar, each with a fine of 1,500 Hong Kong dollars.

The office also stated that the operators of the bar may be prosecuted under the Smoking (Public Health) Ordinance and could face charges for aiding and abetting smokers.

A spokesperson from the Tobacco Control Office pointed out that, due to inhaling deeper, water pipe users typically inhale more toxins, and the amount of smoke inhaled by users in one hour is usually 100 to 200 times that of a cigarette.
