Recently, according to a report by Manchestereveningnews, the Greater Manchester Police and the City Council's Trading Standards have carried out a vigorous crackdown on illegal tobacco and e-cigarettes in the city of Oldham over the past five months. In total, they have seized illegal products worth nearly £100,000.
In a recent operation, a specially trained canine was able to detect illegal tobacco in the trunk of a vehicle associated with a suspected illegal trading store. The owner of the vehicle refused to cooperate and provide the keys, causing law enforcement to forcibly enter the premises and seize the illegally stored cigarettes.
During the period from June to October of this year, approximately 6,500 e-cigarettes, 19,000 packs of cigarettes, and 9.55 kilograms of hand-rolled tobacco were seized, with a total value of £94,000. All seized illegal products will be destroyed and the vendors may face potential further penalties.
