According to The Star, the Sheffield City Council has made a decision to request the central government to ban the use of disposable e-cigarettes. The rationale behind this request is that these products are perceived as appealing to and potentially harmful for young people, while also negatively impacting their living environment and health.
The reason behind this request letter being sent is that city councillors requested Mayor Tom Hunt to bring forward a request to Health and Social Care Minister Victoria Atkins to ban disposable e-cigarettes during the end-of-year general municipal meeting.
City council members stated that they made this request in response to the increasing number of teenagers using e-cigarettes and the impact of these devices on the environment and the well-being of children.
During last year's end-of-year city council meeting, councillors urged Mayor Tom Hunt to write a letter to the UK Health and Social Care Secretary, Victoria Atkins, calling for a ban on disposable e-cigarettes.
They stated that this action is primarily in response to the increasing number of teenagers using e-cigarettes and the impact of these devices on the environment and children's well-being.
