South Dakota Legislature Approves Two Nicotine Licensing Bills Pending Governor’s Decision

 According to KELO, wholesalers, distributors and retailers who sell nicotine products in South Dakota would have to be licensed by state government under two proposals that received final legislative approval on Tuesday.

 

The House of Representatives agreed 60-7 with Senate amendments to House Bill 1220 regulating nicotine wholesalers and distributors, while the Senate concurred 29-5 with House amendments to Senate Bill 221 regulating nicotine retailers, including vending machines.

 

Both bills now head to the desk of Republican Governor Larry Rhoden for his decision on whether they become state law.

 

In other action on Tuesday, the House gave final legislative approval to two additional bills.

 

House Bill 1274 would prohibit the dispensing, distribution, sale or advertisement of abortion pills and other abortion medicine. It passed 61-6.

 

House Bill 1038 would allow the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission to assess actual costs to data centers that are customers of public utilities. It passed 67-0.
