UKVIA Sustainable E-cigarette Week: Taking Action for Environment
The UKVIA has announced the launch of "Sustainable e-cigarette Week" in October, aiming to promote eco-friendly practices in the industry.

The UK Vaping Industry Association (UKVIA) recently announced plans to launch a "Sustainable E-cigarette Week" campaign in October and establish an online platform for information sharing.

The UK Vaping Industry Association (UKVIA) has stated that the platform aims to encourage e-cigarette users, the industry, and retailers to "take action from now and contribute to environmental protection". Despite efforts by the e-cigarette industry to limit its impact on the environment, such as increased product recycling and the introduction of recycling schemes, a recent report by Material Focus revealed that approximately five million disposable e-cigarettes are discarded each week.

A new information database and week-long event will create a list of do's and don'ts for the recycling of disposable e-cigarettes, and provide e-cigarette users with locations for environmentally-friendly disposal. Retailers and other establishments such as bars and clubs can also access educational resources to educate their customers on proper disposal of disposable e-cigarettes throughout the week and year.

The new resource center will also provide guidance to individuals responsible for manufacturing, importing, distributing, and selling e-cigarettes, ensuring that they consistently comply with environmental regulations and operate legally. It will also ensure their close and effective collaboration with reputable waste management companies.

John Dunne, the General Secretary of the UKVIA, stated in an interview, "The disposable e-cigarette has become a significant factor in reducing smoking rates in the UK due to its user-friendly nature, convenience, and affordable price for beginners. By effectively encouraging smokers to switch to the considerably less harmful e-cigarette, these disposable devices have played a major role in achieving historically low smoking rates in the country."

The "Sustainable E-cigarette Week" event is set to take place on October 16, in conjunction with International E-Waste Day on October 14. The UK Vaping Industry Association (UKVIA) will offer a range of content to its members and the broader industry, aiming to promote and share education on eco-friendly practices for e-cigarette users both in-store and online (including through their communication channels) in order to change their disposal habits.
