According to Thai media, Bangkok Port Customs announced the seizure of a shipment of complete e-cigarettes, e-liquid and nitrous oxide, with total economic damage exceeding THB 27 million, or about USD 831,178 based on an April 28 USD/THB rate of 32.484.
52,000 e-cigarettes and 100 gallons of e-liquid were seized
Thanakrit Linthong, director of the Bangkok Port Customs Office, said that over the past week customs investigation and suppression officers, customs control officers and related service officers jointly inspected four import consignments declared as miscellaneous goods and found undeclared items.
These included 52,000 complete e-cigarettes and 100 gallons of e-liquid weighing a total of 2,000 kilograms, with a value of THB 5.56 million, or about USD 171,161. The report said this constituted the import of prohibited goods into Thailand and may violate the 2017 Customs Act and the 2014 Ministry of Commerce notice designating e-shisha and e-cigarettes as prohibited import goods.
126,226 nitrous oxide canisters were also intercepted
Customs also seized 126,226 canisters of nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, in various sizes, with a value of THB 21.27 million, or about USD 654,784. The report said the goods were imported without an import license, potentially violating the 2017 Customs Act, the 1967 Drug Act and the 1979 Food Act.
Thai customs said it will continue strict enforcement
Thanakrit said the Customs Department and Bangkok Port Customs Office will continue to seriously, strictly and continuously prevent and suppress illegal imports and will not allow such goods to slip through and cause harm to the public.
