Rising Shipping Costs due to UK Customs Crack Down on Illegal E-Cigarettes
UK airport customs have been checking for illegal large puff e-cigarettes for a month now, with this added inspection lasting longer and being more stringent than in previous years.

According to sources familiar with the case, UK Customs and the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) carried out strict inspections of a large number of e-cigarette products at Heathrow Airport (LHR Airport) since late June. On July 14, 2FIRSTS interviewed a number of freight forwarders to learn about the progress of this incident and the follow-up situation.

A number of informants said that the inspection lasted longer and was more stringent than in previous years, and as a result, many shipment providers have suspended their business in the UK. A few shipment providers who continue to ship goods to the UK have raised their freight rates, but there are also others that are still operating normally and have not raised their freight rates.

One of the sources said that apart from Heathrow, other airports have also carried out similar checks, but Heathrow is the most stringent and confiscates e-cigarettes as soon as they are found with large puff count e-cigarettes.
