Unregulated Nicotine Products Seized in Kent
66,000 illegally labeled nicotine pouches seized in Kent, UK, raising safety concerns for consumers, especially youth.

Key Points:

1. A county in the UK has seized 66,000 pouches of nicotine bags with packaging labels that do not meet safety regulations, raising concerns about their safety.

2. Product flavors and brand designs appeal to teenagers, but there is a lack of usage instructions and warning signs. Experts are urging the establishment of regulations to ensure consumer safety.

The Kent Trading Standards port team seized a small van loaded with 66,000 bags of nicotine, Conveniencestore reported.

Due to the Spanish labeling on the packaging, these nicotine pouches were confiscated for violation of chemical labeling regulations. These products come in various flavors such as cola and strawberry watermelon, which could easily be confused with food.

Additionally, some brands are clearly targeting young people. In the past 12 months, nearly 4,000 cases of such products have been seized in Kent County.

Kent Trade Standards Bureau Operations Manager Jim Whiddett stated: "Currently, it has been found that these products lack instructions, English labels, warnings, and icons.

"For example, when the nicotine content in a product exceeds 1.7% or 17 milligrams, there should be an exclamation mark and a skull symbol. Additionally, there should be a raised tactile triangle to alert visually impaired consumers to potential risks."
