According to WCAX on April 21, the latest annual smoking report from the Vermont Department of Health shows a decrease in smoking rates among adults. However, there has been a significant increase in the use of e-cigarettes among teenagers.
The report indicates that due to the popularity of flavored tobacco, more and more young people are starting to use e-cigarettes. According to government data, 16% of high school students in Vermont use e-cigarettes, with over half of those students using e-cigarettes at least 20 days per month.
Rhonda Williams, the project director at the Vermont Health Department, stated that e-cigarette products on the market have no restrictions on nicotine content, and frequent use can lead to a high level of addiction.
Williams also pointed out that there are significant differences in tobacco use among different groups. Low-income communities have higher rates of tobacco use due to the larger number of tobacco retail stores in these areas.
