Vermont Senate Will Not Overturn Governor's Tobacco Ban Veto
Vermont Senate won't overturn Governor Phil Scott's veto on flavored tobacco ban, citing inconsistency with state's marijuana and alcohol policies.

According to WCAX on April 12th, the Vermont Senate will not overturn Governor Phil Scott's veto of the flavored tobacco ban resolution.

Last week, the governor vetoed the bill, citing that banning the sale of tobacco-flavored products contradicts Vermont's policy of allowing the sale of marijuana and alcohol products, appearing hypocritical and inconsistent. The bill had passed the Senate with 18 votes, just two votes short of the three-fourths majority needed to override the veto.

On Thursday afternoon, interim Senate President Phil Baruth stated during a Senate meeting that they have no intention of attempting to overturn this veto.

Subsequently, members of the Senate voted to send the bill back to committee, meaning Scott's veto will remain in effect.
