According to a statement by the Secretariat of the World Health Organization's Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) on November 9th, the tenth Conference of the Parties (COP10) of the FCTC and the third Meeting of the Parties (MOP3) to the Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products have been postponed until 2024.
After receiving correspondence from the host country, Panama, regarding the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (COP10) and the third meeting of the Parties to the Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products (MOP3), it is no longer possible to hold these events as scheduled in November 2023," wrote the FCTC on its website.
These conferences are expected to take place in Panama as early as 2024, with the date yet to be announced.
The current security situation in Panama is volatile, which is the main reason behind the postponement of COP10 and MOP3.
The Secretariat of the Convention announced that it will promptly provide further details regarding COP10 and MOP3.
