World Vapers' Alliance Protests Outside World Health Organization
World Vapers Alliance protests outside WHO in Geneva, demanding recognition of e-cigarettes as harm reduction tools.

According to a recent report by the World Vapers Alliance, the World Vapers' Alliance (WVA) held a protest in front of the World Health Organization in Geneva on World Vape Day.

 

Participants in the event urged the global health organization to listen to consumers' voices and acknowledge that scientific evidence supports e-cigarettes, nicotine pouches, and similar products as effective harm reduction tools.

 

The organization expressed concerns about the prevalence of a "misinformation epidemic" surrounding tobacco harm reduction, stating that this misunderstanding is fueled by misleading information and prevents millions of people from switching to scientifically proven less harmful alternatives.

The World Health Organization has turned World No Tobacco Day into a propaganda day. Sweden is on the verge of achieving a smoke-free status through alternative nicotine products. The World Health Organization needs to stop suppressing alternative nicotine products and start supporting them as key to achieving a smoke-free future. The WHO's erroneous statements are fueling a deadly epidemic of misunderstanding. Smokers should understand the truth: the health risks of e-cigarettes are far less than smoking. Accurate knowledge can save millions of lives.

China’s Shanghai Tobacco Group Launches CNY 10.98 Million (Approximately US$1.53 Million) Procurement for Heated Tobacco Production Utility Equipment
Shanghai Tobacco Group Co., Ltd., a tobacco manufacturing company under China National Tobacco Corporation (CNTC), has launched a public tender for heated tobacco products (HTPs) production utility equipment at its Shanghai Cigarette Factory. The project is valued at CNY 10.98 million and covers six combined air-conditioning units, electrical cabinets and control systems for production facilities. The procurement includes equipment design, supply, installation, commissioning and related training services.

Malaysia’s withdrawal of its appeal in a landmark liquid-nicotine case has left a High Court ruling that struck down the 2023 nicotine exemption in force, bringing liquid and gel nicotine used in vaping products back under the Poisons Act 1952. At the same time, the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024 continues to provide a regulatory framework for vaping products, creating uncertainty over retail sales, taxation and existing inventory. MPs are calling for nicotine vape sales and excise collection to stop, including refunds of more than RM354 million collected since 2023, while industry and consumer groups are asking the government to clarify the current legal position.

Alaska Attorney General Stephen J. Cox has sent notices to more than 1,500 tobacco retailers and distributors warning them against selling vape and nicotine pouch products that lack authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). According to the Alaska Department of Law, businesses were advised to verify products against FDA authorization databases and avoid selling unauthorized nicotine products. European Ombudswoman Teresa Anjinho has opened an inquiry into how the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade handles interactions with the tobacco industry. The case follows a complaint from a civil society organisation that alleges regular, unnecessary and non-transparent contacts between DG TRADE and tobacco industry representatives, raising questions over compliance with the EU’s obligations under the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. The inquiry remains ongoing, and the Ombudswoman has not reached any finding of maladministration.
