China's e-cigarette exports to Japan in March 2024 declined by over 50% year-on-year, reaching $21.5 million.

According to the latest trade data from the General Administration of Customs of China, 2FIRSTS has compiled the e-cigarette export data from China to Japan in March 2024. The details are as follows:

The export volume was about 21.15 million US dollars, which decreased by 8.92% compared to the previous period and by 51.34% compared to the same time last year.

The export volume is approximately 116 tons, a decrease of 11.79% on a month-on-month basis and a decrease of 59.42% on a year-on-year basis.

The export unit price is $182.29 per kilogram, with a month-on-month increase of 3.25% and a year-on-year increase of 19.91%; the average price of "e-cigarettes and similar personal electronic vaporizing devices" is $37.29 per unit.

Among them, "e-cigarettes and similar personal electronic vaporizing devices" account for 99.63% of the export categories, while "products not containing tobacco or manufactured tobacco, containing nicotine for non-combustible use" account for 0.37%.

European Ombudswoman Teresa Anjinho has opened an inquiry into how the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade handles interactions with the tobacco industry. The case follows a complaint from a civil society organisation that alleges regular, unnecessary and non-transparent contacts between DG TRADE and tobacco industry representatives, raising questions over compliance with the EU’s obligations under the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. Imperial Brands has agreed to acquire 100% of Swedish modern oral nicotine company Yoik Group AB for an initial SEK515 million, equivalent to about US$53.9 million, plus a deferred payment linked to performance over the next two years. Yoik owns nicotine pouch brand Helwit, which held about 3.4% of Sweden’s modern oral nicotine market over the past 12 months. Imperial says the acquisition will more than double its existing share of the Swedish market. Russia will place e-cigarettes and related nicotine products under its “strategic goods” framework from August 20, 2026. According to TVP World’s report published on August 19, the newly listed items include e-cigarettes, electronic smoking devices, vape liquids and nicotine salts. Individuals who illegally move these products across Russia’s customs border or its state border with other Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) members could face up to five years in prison if shipment values exceed 100,000 rubles (about €1,000), provided all elements of a criminal offence are established.
