On March 27th, the National Health Department of Argentina released Resolution No. 565/2023 in an official statement, stating that the import, distribution, marketing and advertising of heated tobacco products (PTC) will be prohibited.
The Ministry of Health explains that so-called heated tobacco products are electrical devices that heat specially rolled cigarettes containing reconstituted tobacco to a temperature that does not produce combustion. Despite being marketed as low-risk products, there is no independent research to indicate that they are harmless to health. On the contrary, some studies have found that they contain many of the toxic substances found in regular cigarettes, sometimes at even higher concentrations.
It has been reported that Argentina banned the import, sale, and use of e-cigarette products in 2011. Regulation 602/2013 classified e-cigarettes as tobacco products, therefore the National Tobacco Control Law (No. 26687) prohibits the use of e-cigarettes in enclosed public places and public transportation.
