Association Warns of E-Cigarettes Targeting Minors in Peru
Peruvian grape growers association warns of e-cigarettes designed for minors, urging stricter regulations and adult-only sales.

According to a report by Infobae on April 14th, the Association of Winemakers of Peru warns that some e-cigarettes are designed for minors. The association points out that many commercial centers in Peru lack proper regulation and processes, making it difficult for them to follow the appropriate procedures when interacting with underage customers. Therefore, the president of the association, Andrés Choy, is calling on the Peruvian government to strengthen regulations on the sale of e-cigarettes, restricting such products strictly to adults to prevent minors from accessing them.

It is worrisome that some e-cigarettes are clearly designed to target minors, with packaging featuring beloved children's animated characters like SpongeBob SquarePants and Spider-Man. Andres stated, "This is simply unacceptable. It is not acceptable for packaging aimed at adults to blatantly target and appeal to children and teenagers."

Therefore, the association is requesting Peruvian authorities to address this issue immediately and work together with industry members to develop and strictly enforce appropriate regulations. In the meantime, Andreas has pledged not to sell these products to minors and should take a prudent approach in formulating the rules.

According to a report by Activa, the e-cigarette market in Peru is growing significantly, with seven out of ten traditional tobacco users switching to e-cigarettes.
