Australia Welcomes and Implements New E-Cigarette Reform Regulations
The Australian government welcomes new e-cigarette reform regulations to curb usage, including import bans and improved access for medical use.

According to a report by news-medical, the Australian government has welcomed and pledged to commit to new e-cigarette reform regulations. This move aims to suppress the use of e-cigarettes in Australia.

 

Starting from January 1, 2024, the government will enforce a ban on the importation of disposable e-cigarettes, while also improving the accessibility of medical e-cigarettes for individuals attempting to quit smoking.

 

Starting from March 1, 2024, further reform measures are expected to be implemented, including: ceasing the importation of personal e-cigarettes; banning the importation of non-therapeutic use e-cigarettes; requiring importers and manufacturers of therapeutic e-cigarettes to report to the Australian Government's Therapeutic Goods Administration about the conformity of their products to relevant product standards; and mandating importers to obtain permits and authorizations from the Australian Government's Office of Drug Control before importing the products.

BAT’s Velo Study Finds 61% of Nicotine Users Feel More Comfortable Expressing Themselves When Others Do the Same
British American Tobacco’s (BAT) nicotine pouch brand Velo has released a global consumer study and launched its “Echoes of Tomorrowland” campaign with electronic music festival brand Tomorrowland. The research surveyed 2,009 nicotine users across the UK, Spain, Pakistan, Poland and Austria. Velo said 61% of respondents feel more comfortable expressing themselves when they see others doing the same, while 39% said building meaningful connections becomes harder with age. The campaign reflects how nicotine pouch brands are increasingly using music, communities and lifestyle marketing to build consumer engagement.

Chinese authorities have disclosed the country’s first reported criminal case involving counterfeit vapes marketed as “medical nebulizers” and “zero-nicotine” products. Authorities determined that the products involved were counterfeit vapes and pursued criminal charges for producing and selling counterfeit goods. The FDA has authorized four additional on! nicotine pouches, bringing the U.S. total to 30. The decision marks another outcome of the agency’s nicotine pouch review pilot, whose communication and review practices are now being applied more broadly across the category. It also extends Helix’s authorized portfolio from on! PLUS to the earlier on! line.
