Bill Proposes Funding Program for School E-Cigarette Detectors
A Washington state lawmaker proposes a bill to establish a funding program for schools to purchase and install e-cigarette detectors.

According to a report by Chronline, a bill proposed by Washington State Congressman Travis Couture aims to establish a dedicated funding program for schools to purchase and install e-cigarette detectors.

 

According to House Bill 1922, the establishment and management of this program will be jointly handled by the Washington State Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) and the Department of Health. They will also be responsible for reviewing funding applications. Although the bill does not specify the amount of funding, school districts will need to provide evidence of the need for "detectors" through health surveys of adolescents or other relevant state or local student health practices or trend data.

 

School districts that have successfully obtained funding will be required to submit annual reports to OSPI, detailing the effectiveness of e-cigarette detectors and describing other health promotion measures implemented to curb the use of e-cigarette products on school grounds. This legislation aims to address the school e-cigarette issue by investing in advanced technology and targeting specific solutions, while ensuring the effective implementation of the plan through data support.
