
According to TVU's report on February 20th, Chile has implemented a new Tobacco Law since January 2024, aiming to regulate the sale and use of tobacco-related products more strictly. Since the law came into effect, multiple inspections have been carried out across Chile.
The Ministry of Health in Chile has revealed that a total of 213 inspections were conducted in the Biobío region regarding the "Tobacco Law." Of these, 106 inspections were carried out in Concepción province, 62 in Biobío province, and 45 in Arauco province. The inspections resulted in a total of 3 health investigation reports. In the 62 inspections conducted in Biobío province, only 1 report was issued. Similarly, out of the 45 inspections carried out in Arauco province throughout the year, only 1 investigation report was produced.
The interim Health Minister of the Biobío Region, Javiera Ceballos, stated, "Our goal this year is to increase the frequency of relevant inspections by 10%, continuously protecting public health.
The inspection was based on the current new regulations, which established guidelines prohibiting smoking in enclosed spaces, including spaces with ceilings and walls, non-open or adjacent terraces, as well as sports fields, stadiums, and gyms.
