Chinese National Health Commission Issues Notice on Launching Activities for World No Tobacco Day
National Health Commission issues notice on World No Tobacco Day activities, emphasizing protection of youth from tobacco harm.

On May 22nd, the National Health Commission issued a notice about conducting activities for the 37th World No Tobacco Day.

 

The contents of the announcement are as follows:

 

Health Commissions of provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government, and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps:

 

May 31, 2024 marks the 37th World No Tobacco Day. In order to fully implement the requirements of the "Healthy China Action (2019-2030)" tobacco control initiative, raise public awareness of health, continue to strengthen the achievements of smoke-free environment construction, and protect young people from the harms of tobacco, the following notice is now issued regarding the activities for World No Tobacco Day 2024.

Event Content

 

(1) Strengthening tobacco control popular science publicity and advocating for a healthy lifestyle. Local areas should take World No Tobacco Day and Children's Day as opportunities to carry out diverse forms of popular science publicity activities with a focus on youth. This will enhance the public's, especially youth's understanding of the harm of tobacco smoke, improve health literacy, and cultivate a civilized and healthy lifestyle. Specifically, it is important to strengthen communication and collaboration with relevant departments this year, actively mobilize youth to join the tobacco control team, become practitioners and advocates of tobacco control actions, and jointly create a smoke-free and healthy environment for growth.

 

(2) Improve the construction of long-term mechanisms and consolidate the achievements of smoke-free environment construction. Localities should follow the requirements of the "Notice on Leading Cadres Taking the Lead in Banning Smoking in Public Places" and the "Guidelines for Smoke-free Party and Government Offices Construction," "Guidelines for Smoke-free Schools Construction," and "Guidelines for Smoke-free Healthcare Institutions Construction," to guide the standardized construction of smoke-free party and government offices, smoke-free schools, and smoke-free healthcare institutions, establish a sound long-term management mechanism, organize inspections on smoke-free environment construction, promptly identify and rectify problems in the work, and continuously consolidate the achievements of smoke-free environment construction. We should actively promote the construction of smoke-free homes and create a smoke-free, clean, and healthy family environment for young people.

 

(3) Promote community smoking cessation services and provide quality cessation services. Actively promote the Yinchuan community smoking cessation model in Ningxia, carry out diverse forms of smoking cessation education and publicity, enhance residents' health awareness, guide residents to adopt healthy lifestyles and habits, and increase the willingness of smokers to quit. At the same time, provide one-stop smoking cessation comprehensive intervention services including smoking cessation consultation, psychological reinforcement intervention, and follow-up guidance for community smokers, achieving "zero distance" access to smoking cessation services for residents and effectively improving the success rate of smoking cessation.
