According to a report from Alkhaleej on May 26th, the Planning and Development Department of Dubai's ports, customs, and free trade zone businesses conducted a joint inspection with the Dubai Municipality at Dragon Mart to verify whether all shops selling e-cigarettes are adhering to all the procedures and standards approved in the emirate.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Planning and Development Department, Abdullah Balhoul, stated that the department is committed to taking all necessary measures to combat any violations or illegal activities in order to protect public health. He noted that they have appointed a dedicated team in collaboration with the Dubai government to conduct a regulatory and inspection campaign during Ramadan to ensure that e-cigarette products are registered and to verify the authenticity of the required certificates displayed at sales outlets.
Balhoul revealed that such activities are aimed at addressing any illegal activities by merchants and taking legal action against the owners of violating stores. He also noted that during the month of Ramadan, this joint operation with the Dubai municipality resulted in the disclosure of 11 cases of violations, which included non-compliant products, expired products, and 1555 confiscated products that did not meet specifications. Additionally, two unlicensed premises and 10 establishments not following product trading procedures were also discovered.
Balehulle stated that all merchants and business owners are required to adhere to health, safety, and product standards. Regulatory activities are also aimed at educating and informing merchants about the requirements and specifications that products on the market must meet. Balehulle said that the licensing department will actively collaborate with relevant agencies to continue strengthening comprehensive inspections of products in the market to ensure their effectiveness and compliance with standards.
