Education Board Implements E-cigarette Monitoring Program in Ontario Schools
Canadian education board in Ontario's Near North District successfully implements e-cigarette monitoring program in Almaquin Middle School.

Recently, according to the Canadian news website BayToday, the Near North District School Board in Ontario, Canada has successfully implemented a student e-cigarette monitoring program. The education board has installed e-cigarette detectors in the restrooms of Almaquin Middle School.

 

The school board has taken notice of a growing trend of "teenager vaping" in our country, which is causing a negative impact on both staff and students. The board has outlined this trend in detail in a report. E-cigarettes have become a concern within school premises, prompting the board to take action and reduce the usage of e-cigarettes, while encouraging children to adopt healthier lifestyles.

 

The dressing rooms and bathrooms have been installed with e-cigarette detectors, which are similar in size to ordinary smoke detectors and cost around $100 to $1,000. High-end models are mounted on the ceiling or walls. The school board received provincial funding to equip Alma Gold High School with these detectors.

China Discloses First Criminal Case Over Counterfeit Vapes Disguised as “Medical Nebulizers” and “Zero-Nicotine” Products
Chinese authorities have disclosed the country’s first reported criminal case involving counterfeit vapes marketed as “medical nebulizers” and “zero-nicotine” products. Authorities determined that the products involved were counterfeit vapes and pursued criminal charges for producing and selling counterfeit goods. According to the report, the case resulted in the seizure of 347,000 counterfeit vape pods and 53,700 vape devices, with physical goods valued at 22.13 million yuan.

A 12-week European Commission consultation on revising the Tobacco Products Directive and Tobacco Advertising Directive is due to close on Aug. 14, 2026. The Commission has identified e-cigarette flavours, disposable vapes, tobacco heating devices, nicotine pouches, nicotine-free e-cigarettes, packaging and digital marketing among areas for possible new EU rules. National regulations already vary significantly across the bloc, a fragmentation the Commission says creates internal-market barriers and distorts competition. No formal revised TPD/TAD legislative text has yet been published, with the Commission currently indicating December 2026 for the legislative initiative.

China’s Jiangsu Tobacco Monopoly Bureau and Jiangsu Provincial Medical Products Administration have issued a joint notice targeting illegal production and sales of vape products disguised as medical devices. The notice identifies six categories of violations, including obtaining medical licenses through false materials, misusing medical device credentials, expanding production beyond approved scopes, and using medical device-related online platforms to promote or sell vape products.
