Georgia Becomes 1st State to Allow Medical Marijuana Sales in Pharmacies
Georgia became the first US state to allow the sale of medical marijuana in regular pharmacies, according to SBS news.

According to media outlet SBS, Georgia has become the first state to allow the sale of medical marijuana in regular pharmacies. The Georgia Pharmacy Board began accepting applications for the sale of medical marijuana earlier this month.

As of now, over 120 out of more than 400 privately-owned pharmacies in Georgia have expressed their willingness to sell the medical cannabis oil from "Botanical Science" company. These pharmacies are expected to start selling medical cannabis shortly after the completion of a state government field inspection.

Although 38 states in the United States have legalized the use of medical marijuana, its purchase is currently limited to specialized marijuana dispensaries with government permits. If regular pharmacies were allowed to sell medical marijuana oil, the purchasing process for patients with prescriptions would become more convenient.

In 2019, the state of Georgia approved applications for the purchase of medical marijuana for patients suffering from epilepsy, late-stage cancer, and Parkinson's disease. Governor Brian Kemp of Georgia recently approved regulations for the sale of medical marijuana proposed by the Board of Pharmacy.

With a doctor's prescription and a registration certificate issued by the state government, patients and caregivers only need to present their identification cards to legally purchase medical cannabis oil under the guidance of a pharmacist.
