German customs seize 12,500 smuggled e-cigarettes on highway
German customs found over 12,500 smuggled e-cigarettes in a small truck at a highway service area in Baden-Württemberg.

German customs officials found more than 12,500 smuggled e-cigarettes in a small truck at a highway rest stop in North Rhine-Westphalia, according to an October 29 Tagesschau report.

 

During a routine inspection at the Baden-Baden rest stop, police spotted a suspicious truck. A detailed search revealed that the vehicle contained 12,500 e-cigarettes, with an estimated loss of more than 54,000 euros.

 

Currently, the driver is facing tax evasion charges and the investigation into the case is ongoing.

Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada has registered a bill that would ban the use of tobacco products, vapes, hookahs, herbal smoking mixtures and heated tobacco devices by people under 17. The bill was introduced by People’s Deputy Georgiy Mazurashu and has already been sent to the relevant parliamentary committee. The author said one reason for the initiative is the prevalence of vaping among adolescents.

Nebraska lawmakers heard testimony on LB1254, which would require electronic smoking devices sold in the state to include built-in child safety features. Namibia is moving to tighten regulation of e-cigarettes and other emerging nicotine products as part of broader tobacco control efforts. Deputy health minister Susan Ndjaleka said the government is reviewing the Tobacco Products Control Act to close regulatory gaps and address emerging tobacco products. Namibia is also working toward joining the Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products in order to curb the black market and protect public revenue.
