Officials in Portland, Connecticut, USA have reported that four high school students became ill and were transported to the hospital by ambulance after using electronic cigarettes in a school bathroom.
Portland High School principal Philip O'Reilly said that out of caution, emergency personnel were called to Portland High School.
Police Captain Ron Milardo stated that four male students returned to their respective classrooms after vaping in the bathroom. A teacher noticed that one student appeared drowsy and had not attended class, and brought him to the nurse's office. Shortly thereafter, the other three boys also reported similar symptoms to the nurse's office.
O'Reilly emphasized that student safety is of the utmost importance and reiterated that the government will conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and handle it in accordance with the policies of the Bank of England.
E-cigarettes heat a liquid solution that usually contains nicotine into an inhalable vapor. The highest health authority in the United States has declared that teenage vaping is an epidemic, with Juul and other similar e-cigarette devices affecting around 3.6 million underage users.
Federal law in the United States prohibits the sale of vaping products to individuals under the age of 18. However, despite this regulation, many high school students have reported obtaining these products from college students or purchasing them online. In recent months, government officials have introduced a series of proposals aimed at keeping these products out of the hands of young people, including tightening regulations on convenience stores and online sales.
