According to Beritasatu, Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) has opened the option to revise the Draft Law on Narcotics and Psychotropics following discussions on banning electronic cigarettes in Indonesia.
Rudianto Lallo, a member of Commission III of the DPR, stated that the Draft Law on Narcotics and Psychotropics has been included in the 2025-2029 priority National Legislation Program (Prolegnas).
He noted that the discussion of the bill is currently in the stage of gathering public opinions.
Therefore, various inputs, including the National Narcotics Agency's (BNN) plan to ban the circulation of vapes, are highly likely to be accommodated in the regulation.
Suyudi Ario Seto, Head of the National Narcotics Agency, previously revealed that the agency is considering banning the circulation of vapes after finding indications of narcotic contents in the products.
The findings include substances such as methamphetamine and the anaesthetic etomidate, which have the potential for abuse.
Rudianto expressed concern over the discovery of hazardous substances suspected to be narcotics in vapes, suggesting this could become a new loophole for traditional drug distribution.
He stated that the agency's actions serve as a preventive measure to anticipate potential drug abuse through vapes. Meanwhile, he also emphasised the importance of comprehensive scientific studies before such policies are adopted.
