Innovation in Harm Reduction: PMI's Path to Progress
Philip Morris International (PMI) advocates for harm reduction strategies to combat smoking-related health consequences, according to Branislav Bibic, VP of Africa at PMI.

According to a recent report by the foreign media outlet IOL, Branislav Bibic, Vice President of Africa for Philip Morris International, has stated that history has proven that civilized societies make steady progress through the advancement of innovation. He further explained that due to these innovations, improvements aimed at reducing harm in everyday behavior and activities have now become commonplace.

 

He pointed out that Philip Morris International company (PMI) advocates for the application of the harm reduction (THR) strategy to known smoking risks. He also emphasized especially that the best choice for any smoker is to completely quit tobacco and nicotine.

 

He stated that public health institutions, expert organizations, and the general public are increasingly using innovation to address the serious health consequences of smoking. For example, the US FDA has created separate channels for innovative tobacco products that are considered better than cigarettes and has approved their marketing as appropriate alternatives for promoting public health.

Major U.S. Vape Distributor Demand Vape Pays at Least $300,000 for White House Lobbying Amid Enforcement Pressure
New York vape distributor Ecto World, which operates as Demand Vape, hired political consultant Roger Stone to lobby the Executive Office of the President on regulation of vaping and related products while facing state enforcement and multiple lawsuits. Public lobbying disclosures show that Ecto World paid at least $300,000 for the work through June 30, 2026. Separately, New York State announced in March that more than 28,500 pounds of vaping products tied to the company had been seized, while New York City and the state have pursued legal or enforcement actions. Public records do not show that the lobbying directly changed any specific regulatory or enforcement outcome.

After Apple Business Decline, South Korea’s ITM Semiconductor Expands KT&G Vape Supply Chain as Vape Revenue Rises 24.8%
South Korean electronics component supplier ITM Semiconductor is reshaping its business portfolio after a decline in Apple-related protection circuit business, expanding its supply of vape devices and cartridges to KT&G. According to News1 on August 18, 2026, ITM’s vape-related revenue rose 24.8% year on year to 75.5 billion won in the first half of 2026. The company began mass production of vape devices at its Cikarang, Indonesia facility in January 2026, strengthening export manufacturing capacity. Meanwhile, Samsung-related protection circuit sales continued to grow, providing support during the transition.

As cigarette markets face long-term pressure, major tobacco companies are increasingly turning to nicotine pouches in search of growth beyond combustible tobacco. China’s Jiangsu Tobacco Monopoly Bureau and Jiangsu Provincial Medical Products Administration have issued a joint notice targeting illegal production and sales of vape products disguised as medical devices. The notice identifies six categories of violations, including obtaining medical licenses through false materials, misusing medical device credentials, expanding production beyond approved scopes, and using medical device-related online platforms to promote or sell vape products. The action is based on China’s tobacco and medical device regulations and aims to strengthen vape oversight and consumer protection.
