Kazakhstan Takes Action Against Illegal E-cigarette Sales
Kazakhstan authorities seize e-cigarettes and nicotine products worth approximately 8.5 million tenge ($13,000) in a recent operation.

According to an NUR.KZ report on October 5th, authorities in Ust-Kamenogorsk city in Kazakhstan successfully seized approximately 8.5 million tenge (equivalent to 130,000 RMB) worth of e-cigarettes and other disposable nicotine-containing products in a recent operation conducted by law enforcement. The case materials have been handed over to the court for further examination and legal proceedings.

Kasym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of Kazakhstan, expressed concern in June this year regarding the potential health risks associated with e-cigarettes and various e-cigarette products. He called for urgent measures to address this dangerous phenomenon and emphasized his commitment to closely monitoring the issue.

In early August, the Finance Minister of Kazakhstan, Eerulan Zhamau Bayev, confirmed a plan to implement a complete ban on the sale of e-cigarettes throughout Kazakhstan through legislation.

The public security authorities have expressed that efforts to crack down on illegal tobacco products and disposable e-cigarettes will continue to be pursued.
