Kentucky Schools Struggle to Prevent E-cigarette Use on Campus
Kentucky school officials are taking action to prevent students from using e-cigarettes on school property, as the usage is steadily increasing.

According to WYMT, on October 10, school administrators in Harlan County, Kentucky, are making efforts to prevent people from using e-cigarettes on school property. Matt Cope, the director of school security, stated that they have been consistently discovering students in possession of e-cigarettes.

 

According to scientific experts, "We have observed a dangerously steady increase in e-cigarette use among students, not only in our county but throughout the country. We witness this situation on a daily basis in schools, and it is on an upward trajectory.

 

In response, the school system has installed e-cigarette detection devices in the bathrooms, and staff members have been trained to identify e-cigarettes. However, experts point out that students have become increasingly creative in concealing these devices. "We now see e-cigarettes disguised as everyday objects, whether it's the drawstring of a child's hat, something that resembles a highlighter pen, cosmetics, a watch, or even a ballpoint pen. They hide these e-cigarettes very cleverly.

 

According to a popular science explanation, any student in Harlan County schools who is found carrying an e-cigarette may face disciplinary action. Administrative staff are also attempting to educate students on the dangers of nicotine and other substances.

 

According to a science popularizer, "All students have already had discussions on anti-e-cigarette in the classroom. We also organized assemblies for high school and middle school students to discuss the dangers of e-cigarettes." He expressed his concern that businesses are targeting students, making it increasingly challenging to prevent them from using e-cigarettes.
