Major Marijuana Smuggling Operation Disguised as E-Cigarette Liquid Busted
A shipment of cannabis disguised as e-cigarette liquid was intercepted by Maldives customs, sparking concerns about secret distribution to students.

According to Edition's report on October 15th, a shipment of marijuana disguised as e-cigarette liquid was intercepted by Maldives customs officials.

Minister of National Security and Technology of Maldives, Ali Ihusan, posted on the social media platform X stating that a batch of marijuana entered the country in the form of e-cigarette liquid or flavorings. The minister shared a photo of a seized e-cigarette pod, revealing that it contained marijuana. He expressed concern that such drugs could be distributed secretly to school students through e-cigarettes.


On October 14th, President of Maldives, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, has ordered that as of November 15, 2024, the import of all e-cigarette products and components will be considered illegal. Starting from December 15, 2024, the use, possession, production, sale, advertising, and distribution of all e-cigarette products will also be fully banned.
